Do I need to be injured?
No – To maintain muscle length and keep postural balance, a recommended ‘maintenance’ programme is always recommended. A maintenance programme can be on a rolling 5-6 weeks schedule which will always include muscle length/strength testing to ensure postural imbalances are deferred. Whilst we pay upwards of £200-£300 each year for a car service how often do we invest that money in ourselves to maintain a pain free lifestyle?
What should I wear to an appointment?
Recommended – loose comfortable clothing in general or possibly wearing shorts. Sports bras are not recommended. There is a changing room at the clinic so bringing clothing and changing is perfectly fine. Privacy and discretion will be always maintained, and use of towels to cover the body that is not being worked on are always adhered to. If you are uncomfortable in anyway, please discuss with the therapist. I will ensure any concerns are addressed immediately.
What should I consider when injured?
Should you have an injury, such as a possible muscle tear, massage cannot be done immediately on that area of pain due to the acute phase of injuries. This will need 72 hrs before attending soft tissue therapy. We recommend RICE protocols (Rest, Ice , Compress, Elevate) before any massage or certainly as soon as the injury occurs.
Before your session, please shower or certainly washing feet for conditions such as plantar fasciitis is always welcome!
Do you do home visits?
No in general. Primarily this is down to available space needed to work professionally and safely, this cannot always be guaranteed in someone’s home. If you want a home visit, prices are £70 per hr plus .45p per mile distance from my home address to the destination. Please enquire separately for this service. Note: Dry Needling is not viable in this service.
Is Soft Tissue Therapy painful?
Pain and discomfort vary from person to person, and I will always balance the fine line we tread to achieve results. Throughout the session there will be ‘checks’ to ascertain the level of pressure and its comfortability. Sometimes indicators of increased areas of pain are of benefit to pinpoint the type of Soft Tissue techniques to be applied. Feedback throughout is very welcome and changing a method, if necessary, can be easily acted upon.
After a session it can take up to 48hrs for muscle soreness to subside, thereafter, you should feel a noticeable difference!
What should I do before and after my session?
Hydration with water immediately after your session is recommended. Alcohol is not recommended before or after. It is also best to allow plenty of time to digest a meal beforehand. Depending on your type of session you may feel very relaxed afterwards, so it is best to not undertake any strenuous activity or sudden movements.
What happens if I have a cold or COVID before my appointment?
Please advise the clinic if you have any symptoms or in full cold. As this is a ‘hands-on’ business its always helpful if we can rearrange the appointment. There is always an understanding these things happen, and a mutual cooperation on illness is very much appreciated.
How am I best make payment?
Payment will need to be settled in full at the end of the session – preferable by card transaction. Credit cards are accepted except American Express.
